Dead Island isn’t a name that fills me with a sense of trust, only because its original trailer was so dramatic and emotionally impacting, then the actual game turned out to be a fun-filled romp around a zombie island. Which is fine! It was just not what I was expecting. And I am not sure what I am expecting from Dead Island 2, but, thanks to a recent tweet, I can at least say I am expecting.

Technically speaking, Dead Island is a mixed bag. The open world has a few nice areas, but zombie animations are repetitive, and some of the vistas are quite sparse. But if you are a gore fan, there are dynamic kill animations, so at least that's something. Similarly, the audio is great in places, but some wooden voice acting and repetitive zombie sounds keep this game's sound design from.
